The Lansing Family Journey 2026
Gerrit Frederickse Lansing (h) was the progenitor of the Lansing Family in America, but he never actually made it to the New Netherlands having died in Hasselt, Holland around 1654. He left his wife, Elizabeth Ten Cate Hendrickse with six small children and little financial security. Soon thereafter, Elizabeth married Wouter Albertse van Uythoff in hopes of providing better financial security for her family.
Unfortunately, Elizabeth and Wouter each had significant debt when they married but were able to borrow enough money from friends for the voyage across the Atlantic to America. Elizabeth had pledged her home in Hasselt as security for the loan.
Over the past 25 years I have worked on the descendants of the six children of the Lansing family who came from Hasselt, Holland in 1655 with their mother, Elizabeth Ten Cate Hendrickse and stepfather, Wouter Albertse van Uythoff. They all stepped off the ship, “De Gelderse Bloem”, at Beverwyck (Albany, New York). From this beginning, they spread throughout New York and eventually to all of the United States and Canada.
These new books break the descendants of the six original Lansing children into two volumes. Volume one follows the families of the oldest three Lansing children (Hendrick Gerritse Lansing belongs to my line); Volume two traces the families of the three youngest. From there, Volume three connects those prominent European families that married Into the Lansing line in America.
